Adele’s dreamy bedroom

P1090672

Adele is a lucky little 5 years old girl who has received for her birthday a bedroom make-over!
I’m always happy to work on girls’ room and I think that if I had a daughter her room would probably look just like this one ^^.

Adele was quite specific about what she likes. First, she asked for a little boy and girl kissing… hmmm mommy was not very ok with that and so we only kept  the romantic spirit from that idea. Then she said that she likes rabbits and the moon. I love so much working from kids’ ideas, it’s so refreshing and spontaneous.

Once the concept approved, we started working on the elevations of the room and the drawing details.

10385461_1536340293256555_3081132762088515167_n

A couple of days ago, we were able to put to the test our new stencils, from the “Birdy” collection, during the “Everybody back to school” charity event organized by 513 Paint Shop.

Here are a few pictures of that wonderful afternoon!

We’ve also tested them on fabrics, with felt pens or copper foil thanks to Elsa’s magic fingers!
As you can see, the options are endless ^^

Now get to your brushes! I am sure you have all kinds of walls, furniture, boxes, bags, tee-shirts in your homes waiting to be customized.
The texture of the paint provided by the 513 Paint Shop was ideal for this type of activity. I highly recommend it. It also works with any type of liquid or spray paint.

The stencils will be available by tomorrow on our e-shop and as soon as next week at the 513 Paint Shop at the PMQ.
Stay tuned!

Wall storage

Hello hello!

It has been a while since I have last published an article about my latest inspirations or any post for that matter! The past days have been rather hectic. I have been working on several projects and already making plans for September. It is going to be very special! I will tell you more about it very soon…

Before we dive into today’s inspiration board, a quick feedback on the sale we organized last week. Thank you so much to everybody who made it (or has tried to ^^). We have been able to raise enough funds to finance two large deliveries. I had not organized a sale in a long time and it was so much fun to move out of the e-shop format and get to meet people. You can check out pictures of the day on our Facebook page.

Well, today I want to talk to you about wall storage and how it can be creative and functional at the same time. From a simple shelf to an unusual object, the options are endless.

Here is a little selection that I hope will inspire you:

Creative design is at its best when everyday objects serve other purposes. And that’s how milk crates, pipes and even wire baskets can be used as wall storage. When recycling meets creative design…

Have a great week end!

DIY – Birdhouse

birdhouse_DIY-02

Here is a DIY project with recycled material!
Last month, we celebrated my son’s 4th birthday. As kids start to enjoy crafting at this age, each kid received a birdhouse to decorate and bring home as a gift.
I’ve always enjoyed decorating children’s rooms with birdhouses; if you have a closer look at my projects, you will often see a small birdhouse somewhere. It gives the wall more life and volume.  Also, I find them much more joyful than birdcages, which always sadden me a little.

P1080234 P1080341

The birdhouses are super easy to do; all you need is:
- cardboard boxes (not too thick)
– some nice paper sheets (you can use Japanese origami paper or any paper not to thick that you like and want to recycle; sometimes I simply print patterns on my laser printer on a 80gr paper)
– some white glue and pencils
– scissors, a cutter, a ruler, set square, strong glue
– ideally a circular cutter for the house door, or a compass + cutter if you don’t have one

STEP 1, traces
Here is the pattern to draw on your cardboard

birdhouse_design13cm-01

>> Tips:
– Once you have drawn and cut the first house, just use the outline of the pattern to cut the other houses , it will save you a lot of time
– This version is without bottom, but if you add one, you can use the cage as a goody bag.

STEP 2, cutting:
-  Cut the outline of the base and the roof,
- And  then cut the circular opening with your circular compass .

STEP 3, folding and assembly

- To have a clean folding, run the box cutter on the folding lines (green lines in the figure) . Be careful not to cut through the cardboard, just cut the upper layer.
- Assemble the house, roof and base with the glue .

STEP 4, decoration:
This is where your little ones get involved !
- Apply white glue on the surface you are decorating, stick the piece of decorative paper and apply more glue on top to both fix and polish it.
- Repeat this step to cover the whole house with different decorative papers
- Apply a final layer of glue to secure the assembly.

>> Tips:
- I noticed that it was easier for children to have small pieces of pre-cut decorative papers.
- You can of course change the dimensions and proportions of the cabin, but always make sure the roof is 1 to 2 cm wider than the walls of the birdhouse for a nicer effect.
- To hang it on the wall,  do a small hole on the back to insert a screw or simply use double-faced adhesive tape/velcro.

P1080317 P1080262

STEP 5, the perch
- Make a hole (size of a straw) under the opening with a sharp knife or cutter
- Cut a piece of straw and insert it in the hole.
Have fun!

In a fairy mood

To end the week gently, I welcome you into Marguerite&Gribouilli’s enchanted fairy world. You probably already met our first Angels, launched almost seven years ago. It was therefore about time to introduce you to their new siblings. The Angels stickers are a great addition to children’s room. They somehow make the room feel dreamy and cosy.

We have been working in the past weeks on several projects, which is why we have not posted as regularly as we used to. We should be back to our regular rhythm very soon to share with you some new products, DIY tutorials as well as new design ideas.
Have a great week end!
