Hong Kong from A to Z

Hong Kong from A to Z - launching - bookazine-3

Here is the latest release! An alphabet book about Hong Kong, made with my dear friend Ellen Ng.
We worked on this project for 9 months, yes 9 months, the same amount of time as a baby in your body. As luck would have it, I received the book sample at the hospital entrance on the day our second son Nessim was born!

HK from A to Z - book 2

The idea had planted it’s seed a year ago while I was on a trip in Australia. Once I returned to Hong Kong, I presented the idea to Ellen who immediately accepted to join the adventure by writing the texts.
Ellen is little Emma’s mom, we quickly agreed to name our heroine “Ayma” a mix of “Aydan” (my eldest son) and “Emma”.

I really loved working with Ellen, she helped bring this project to a dimension that I certainly would not have achieved by myself. Although we each have a specific role, Ellen writes and I illustrate, we have worked very closely, bouncing off each other’s ideas, thus creating very dynamic exchanges!
We have developped and printed the book and are currently working on its commercialisation.
This is a very exciting adventure as well as very diverse!

wrapping-paper-marguerite-gribouilli-09

I am extremely happy to share with you my latest project! Those of you who know me know my obsession with all paper-related products. My work space and my house are filled with notebooks, notepads, pencils, calendars, stationery and so on. I just love that stuff but for some reason never actually got to design it.

But that is about to change with the launch of our new black and white dancing dots wrapping paper that is already available in our e-shop. Each set includes 20 sheets of delicate translucent tissue paper. Get ready for Christmas by ordering your set right here.

I hope you like it as much as I do!

Designs for cool kids

P1100539Our little ones are heading back to school and it might just be the perfect time to redecorate their room. Some of you might have already done just that but for those that are still contemplating different options, here are three rooms I designed this summer to help trigger your inspiration.

TITRES-09The first one is my son’s Aydan’s. He is five years old. The background was made with paint and masking tape. It is geometrical and so quite easy to draw and replicate. The stickers are from our dinosaures collection available in our e-shop right here.

P1100969P1100972

The two following rooms were designed based on existing models. It is an ideal option for those wishing to do something special, yet tailor-made for their space and budget! It usually takes us no more than 7 to 10 days to come up with a design plan, which can later be followed by the installation (but not necessarily). We start by discussing the spirit of the room before deciding on the color of the background and selecting the theme of the room. So don’t hesitate to contact us to schedule a house visit, designing kids’ rooms is one of my favorite parts of my job!

TITRES-11For her big brother Aaron, we went with a combination of grey, peacock blue and orange. We added a touch of fun and color to the gray wall using a 2.5 meters long sticker from the “Plain is boring” collection. Different lengths (up to 3 meters) are now available in our boutique to better fit your spaces and furniture.

DIY – Fabric basket

Hello everyone,

Today I am very happy to share with you a different kind of DIY activity, focusing on patterns rather than murals. This post was inspired by our range of stencils which we will be using to customize fabrics. Launching my very own line of fabrics is on my hope to do list but in the meantime here is a fun and practical DIY to make fabric baskets. I promise it only requires basic sewing skills, the trickiest part being the assembly of the bottom and the body of the basket. I use these baskets all over my house to hold towels, make-up, toys, etc. They come in handy when it is time to tidy up our home.

fabric basket DIY- marguerite-gribouilli-06

To realize one bascket (18cm diam x 15cm height), you will need:

- 3 pieces of fabric:
2 rectangles 62×29 cm and a circle of 22 cm diameter
- fabric paint & stencil brushes – ironing board & a flatiron
- sewing material
- M&G stencils

fabric basket DIY- marguerite-gribouilli-01fabric basket DIY- marguerite-gribouilli-08

STEP 1,

Use the M&G stencils and apply paint on the chosen pieces of fabric. Once the paint dries completely, iron the pieces of fabric painted side down with a hot iron (no steam) in order to lock in the colors.
fabric basket DIY- marguerite-gribouilli-02

STEP 2,

Place the two rectangles on top of each other, back sides against each others, pin them together and stitch them using a sewing machine. Leave a small opening to be able to turn it inside out.

STEP 3,

Place the two end sides of the fabric on top of each other and stitch the sides up in order to make the main cylinder.

STEP 4,

Assemble the bottom part to the cylinder using pins, then stitch them together using your sewing machine. Fold down the excess fabric and sew it by hand.

Turn around the basket and…there you go!

Hello Singapore

Marguerite&Gribouilli_hello_singapore_elephant_web

During my recent getaway to Singapore, I enjoyed drawing the famous colonial-style facades of the buildings downtown. I absolutely loved the colors and the architecture. I was so inspired by it all that we have decided to turn two of these drawings into posters which are now available in our e-shop. They would make wonderful gifts to hand out this summer to your loved ones, don’t you think!
