Tote bags for Petit Bazaar

Belpearl

Belpearl is a family farming business, which has been trading and designing
pearls since 1933. Belpearl is a mix of oriental and occidental designs with lebanese roots,
living between Japan and Hong Kong and farming in the most beautiful places
of Pacific. All ingredients was there to inspire me!

I’ve discovered with great interest the world of pearls, its history, its
big names, its textures, an absolutely fascinating world.

Belpearl gave me the mission to redefine the contours of their graphic
universe. For me it was a new kind of branding work, out of my comfort
zone. I was more used to dealing with the playful universe.
The Belpearl house developed both, collections of modern baroque jewellery
as well as more sophisticated and modern jewellery. The challenge was to
find a graphic balance between these two universes.
Even though the general aim of the brand is to develop more “modern”
collections, we cannot ignore the baroque heritage of the brand.

Here are the existing graphic elements that the brand has developed in the
past:

We will keep the BP monogram in upper case. However, I expressed
reservations about the dominant use of the navy and the pictogram with the
seahorse shaped shield.
The navy blue does not marry well with the shades of pearl, I have replaced
it with black, which is more elegant but also timeless. I have offered to
develop a range of complementary colours and patterns to illustrate the 4
large pearl collections that the brand is working on.

1. Inspiration
The graphic base language is an accumulation of lines similar to coral
structures.It gives an interesting rhythm, a spontaneous beat, a flow. We
will use these lines on all our patterns.

2. Logo and Monogram
We have retouched the letters from the original logo and added a baseline
as well as a monogram.
Here are the final 2 designs which were chosen.

4. Simulation on catalogue

This study was the subject of lots of graphic research, here are some
drawings that I’ve developed but have not been retained because they were
too complicated compared to the minimalist and modern identity that the
brand wishes to follow in the near future.

Spring

Spring is an incredible learning centre in the heart of Wanchai.
9,000 sq feet dedicated to the well being and evolution of your child  (0-6y).
Spring is also the dedication of Joyce who created this centre.I was seized by her attention to detail and desire for perfection. I immediately thought that this project will go far.
So to celebrate their 3rd birthday, Joyce gave me the task of revamping the graphic identity.
We focused our reflection around the three following ideas:

We have selected a new range of colours, fonts  and have created 3 patterns which will give the brand a more creative and less digital image. They are intended to be used on different media such as catalogs, stationery, web interfaces but also uniforms and  murals.

The existing architectural conceptcreated by Joey Ho Design is strong and contains very interesting items. My job is also to work and ensure  an overall coherent concept, therefore a bridge between the graphics universe and architectural universe must be created.

I am delighted to have had the opportunity to add my own touch to this colossal project. The center has appeared in international decorations magazines as well as development projects in mainland China.
Do not hesitate to request a visit, it is well worth the trip, the water cooler, mini kitchens, sensory room, the lights that are shaped as basketball court will awaken the child in you!
